Romania’s President Nominates Adrian Vestea as Prime Minister
During a press briefing on Sunday, Dan confirmed that Vestea, who also serves as vice-president of the National Liberal Party, was selected after independent candidate Eugen Tomac stepped down earlier the same day.
The president said Vestea’s experience across local and national administration—including roles as mayor, county council leader, and minister—made him well-suited for the position, expressing confidence in his ability to manage the responsibilities ahead.
Vestea thanked the president for the nomination, stating, “I assume this responsibility at a time of political crisis. I know the Romanian state well, and I know from the ground up what people's expectations are, what problems they face, and what needs to be done.”
He now has 10 days to build a governing coalition and secure a parliamentary vote of confidence.
The nomination follows Tomac’s inability to secure sufficient parliamentary backing. Tomac had been designated earlier in June after the government led by Ilie Bolojan collapsed following a successful no-confidence vote in May, which forced his cabinet to resign.
