Palestinian Man Dies from Israeli Gunfire in West Bank’s Hebron

(MENAFN) A Palestinian man succumbed Monday to critical wounds inflicted by Israeli army fire near a separation barrier in the West Bank, the Health Ministry confirmed.

The ministry identified the victim as Mahmoud Ziad Al-Amleh, 32, who was shot by Israeli forces on Sunday near the town of Beit Ula, north of Hebron, while in the vicinity of the barrier. He died of his injuries the following day.

The death underscores a deepening humanitarian toll in the West Bank since the outbreak of the Gaza war. Data compiled by the General Federation of Palestinian Trade Unions reveals that more than 50 Palestinian workers have been killed and upwards of 38,000 detained by Israeli forces between October 2023 and May 1 of this year.

Since Israel barred Palestinian laborers from returning to their workplaces at the onset of the conflict, a growing number of desperate workers have resorted to scaling the separation wall — a perilous act that has repeatedly proven fatal.

The barrier itself remains a flashpoint of legal and political dispute. Israel maintains it was erected as a security measure, while Palestinian authorities and the United Nations contend it serves as an instrument of land annexation. That position was affirmed at the highest international level in 2004, when the International Court of Justice issued an advisory opinion declaring the wall illegal under international law, citing its construction on occupied Palestinian territory.
