Chinese Stocks End Wednesday with Mixed Results

(MENAFN) Chinese equities ended Wednesday on a split note, as technology-linked shares pushed higher while broader market indices slipped into the red.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index shed 0.18 percent to close at 4,162.18 points, while the Shenzhen Component Index finished virtually unchanged at 15,569.98 points.

Combined turnover across both indices reached 2.95 trillion yuan (approximately 431.3 billion U.S. dollars), edging up 67.2 billion yuan from the prior session.

Semiconductor and optical fiber stocks paced the day's gainers, whereas power sector shares bore the brunt of the selling pressure.

Growth-oriented counters fared considerably better. The ChiNext Index — which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board of emerging enterprises — advanced 0.34 percent to finish at 3,921.79 points.

The STAR Composite Index, a barometer of performance on China's sci-tech innovation board, posted the session's standout gain, surging 2.31 percent to close at 2,198.87 points.
