Dragone stated that NATO continues to remain on high vigilance "24 hours a day, 7 days a week" across every major strategic region, including the eastern flank, southern neighborhood, and the High North, including the Arctic.
His comments were delivered as NATO military chiefs convened in Brussels to examine force posture, defense planning, operational capabilities, technological innovation, and strategic adaptation amid what he characterized as a deteriorating global security situation.
"Since we last met in this format, in January, new crises arose. Existing crises have deepened. And, the security environment has become even more demanding," Dragone said.
Apart from Ukraine, he highlighted continuing instability throughout NATO’s southern neighborhood, mounting strain on international trade corridors, threats to energy supply routes, and persistent hybrid dangers such as cyberattacks, sabotage operations, disinformation efforts, and the exploitation of emerging technologies.
He underscored that NATO had recently faced significant tests but succeeded in demonstrating enhanced deterrence capabilities and a higher level of preparedness.
