Kremlin to Skip Inaugural Meeting of Board of Peace

(MENAFN) The Kremlin said Wednesday it has no plans to participate in the inaugural meeting of the Board of Peace set for Feb. 19 in Washington, signaling Moscow will not be represented at the high-level gathering.

"No one from the Kremlin is planning anything," presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told a Russian outlet, noting that the Russian Foreign Ministry is still assessing the proposal.

The event — first disclosed by international media citing invitation letters — is expected to function as both a leadership summit and a donor conference aimed at rebuilding the Gaza Strip. The initiative was launched by US President Donald Trump as part of broader efforts tied to the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Earlier, Russia’s Foreign Ministry described the wider peace framework as a "positive development" due to its emphasis on halting violence and addressing humanitarian concerns. However, Moscow has stressed that deeper measures are required to tackle underlying drivers of instability in the region.

Separately, the office of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko confirmed he received an invitation but will not attend.

The Board of Peace charter was signed on Jan. 22 by representatives from 19 nations during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

Formed as part of diplomatic efforts to secure a peaceful resolution in Gaza, the Board has reportedly expanded since its launch. Washington has indicated that additional countries have joined the initiative.

The Washington meeting, expected to convene leaders invited by the Trump administration, will center on mobilizing financial support for Gaza’s reconstruction.
