According to election officials, voter participation reached 47.9% across roughly 36,000 polling stations before voting concluded. Akhtar Ahmed, senior secretary of the Bangladesh Election Commission, confirmed the preliminary turnout figure, noting that the final percentage will be determined once all polling centers submit their official documentation.
The election day unfolded with minimal disruption overall. Isolated incidents were reported, including one fatality and two minor Molotov cocktail attacks in Chauddagram in the east of the country, as well as another such incident at a polling center in Gopalganj Sadar. The individual who died was a man in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, according to reports. Several people were also said to have sustained minor injuries.
More than 127.6 million citizens were eligible to cast ballots, not only to select a new government but also to participate in a referendum concerning constitutional amendments.
Security was extensive, with around one million personnel deployed nationwide to maintain order. Voting commenced at 7:30 a.m. (0130 GMT) and ended nine hours later at 4:30 p.m. (1030 GMT). Throughout the day, lengthy lines of voters were visible outside polling stations, reflecting steady participation despite the heightened security presence.
