Turkey Expresses Sympathy Following Canadian School Shooting

(MENAFN) Türkiye expressed sorrow on Wednesday after a school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, claimed the lives of 10 people, including the suspected gunman.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of life resulting from the shooting that took place yesterday (Feb. 10) at a school in the province of British Columbia, Canada,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this heinous attack and to the people of Canada, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” the statement added.

According to reports, six victims were found dead inside Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, one died en route to a hospital, and two others were discovered at a nearby residence linked to the shooting. The suspect was found dead inside the school from “a self-inflicted injury.”

The incident is now the second-deadliest school shooting in Canadian history, following the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique attack in Montreal, which killed 14 people.

Tumbler Ridge is a town of about 2,400 residents in western Canada, situated in the Rocky Mountain foothills roughly 680 kilometers (422 miles) from the US border. Authorities continue to investigate the tragedy.
