France Welcomes Russia’s Will for Dialogue with Macron

(MENAFN) On Sunday, the French presidency expressed approval of Moscow’s openness to hold discussions with President Emmanuel Macron, noting that further specifics will be clarified in the coming days.

The Elysee Palace stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s willingness to converse with Macron is “welcome” and that Paris will determine the arrangements “in the coming days,” according to a French broadcaster.

This announcement followed remarks from Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, who told a Russian news agency late Saturday that Putin is prepared to enter into dialogue with Macron.

Speaking after the European Council gathering on Friday, Macron explained that it would “become useful again” for him and European leaders to engage with Putin, particularly in light of current initiatives by the United States to bring an end to the Moscow-Kyiv conflict.

Macron added: “I think that we, Europeans and Ukrainians, have an interest in finding a framework to re-engage in these discussions properly. Otherwise, we end up talking among ourselves, with negotiators who go off on their own to talk with the Russians, which is not optimal.”
