PM of Pakistan praises relations with Ankara
Sharif honored the legacy of Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, and highlighted the nation’s remarkable progress under his leadership and that of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whom he described as “a leading light of progress, development, and resilience.” He recalled the centuries-old ties between the two nations and lauded Türkiye’s consistent support for Pakistan during wars, floods, earthquakes, and other crises, noting the country’s role in building schools, hospitals, and villages in flood-affected areas.
Emphasizing the growing strategic partnership, Sharif stated that Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to “share happiness and sorrows” and support each other on international matters. He also thanked Türkiye for its support of Gaza and Kashmir and reaffirmed Pakistan’s backing of Türkiye’s position on Northern Cyprus. “Pakistan and Türkiye are not just friends… we are brothers forever,” he concluded.
Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Irfan Neziroglu also addressed the event and read out a message from President Erdogan. Türkiye officially became a republic on Oct. 29, 1923, when Ataturk was declared the country’s first president, and Republic Day has since been celebrated annually on this date as one of the nation’s most important commemorations.
