Protesters get arrested during Anti-ICE rallies in Portland

(MENAFN) Protesters and law enforcement confronted each other outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Portland, Oregon, on Saturday.

Demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement policies and the use of the National Guard took place in various cities.

According to Oregon Public Broadcasting (OPB), hundreds marched to the Portland facility, blocking the road outside. Federal officers used tear gas, smoke, and pepper balls to break up the crowd.

OPB reported that at least seven demonstrators were taken into custody; two were released shortly after. Portland police later said they detained two additional individuals, one found carrying chemical spray and a collapsible metal baton.

That same day, a federal judge temporarily halted the deployment of National Guard troops in Portland following a lawsuit filed by state and city authorities.

President Trump authorized the Guard’s deployment to Chicago on Saturday. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said border patrol officers were “boxed in by ten cars” and rammed.

Agents shot and wounded a female driver who was allegedly armed.

Later, a protest in Broadview, near Chicago, at another ICE facility also turned confrontational, with police making multiple arrests.
