U.S. Lawmakers Blast Israel’s Gaza Hospital Air Raid as “War Crimes”
“Israel’s deliberate, horrific strikes on Nasser Hospital killed doctors, journalists, and rescue workers. A hospital should never be a war zone. The US cannot keep funding these war crimes,” said Representative Nydia Velazquez on the social platform X.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the only Palestinian-American serving in Congress, condemned the attack in a scathing post: “Every American politician who has voted to arm the genocidal apartheid state has the blood of this massacre on their hands.”
The strike, which hit the fourth floor of the hospital in Khan Younis twice—once again as rescue operations were underway—was confirmed by the Israeli military. The army said it “regrets any harm to uninvolved individuals” and has initiated a preliminary investigation into the incident.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 20 people lost their lives in the bombardment. Among the dead were several members of the press: Hussam al-Masri of Reuters, Mohammad Salama of Al Jazeera, Mariam Abu Dagga, a freelance visual journalist for The Associated Press, along with Moaz Abu Taha, Ahmed Abu Aziz, and Hassan Douhan.
Palestinian medical sources reported that the second missile struck while rescue teams were retrieving casualties from the initial blast.
The Gaza Government Media Office stated that the deaths bring the total number of journalists killed in Gaza since October 2023 to 246, highlighting the immense danger media workers face in the ongoing conflict.
